Would walking be enough?


What if the only thing exercise that I can do GUARANTEED everyday is walking. Would it be enough? When I start setting new goals of exercise and fitness challenges my next move is usually to acquire a schedule of classes at the local gym I so kindly donate my money too every month. Then I scroll through my collection of workout DVD's ranging from hardcore P90x to stress relieving yoga. Next step is to write it all out in a nice organized format. Then...dom dom doooom! Life. Gotta pick up Sam early, work got busy, ran out of socks so time to do laundry, haven't seen the girls in a while- time to see them ....and on and on. There are so many days that I close my eyes and think "i wish there were more hours in the day"
Why is it that when life gets busy the first thing that goes on the back burner is our exercise and nutrition???? Its the foundation of everything we do. It battles stress better than anything out there, it releases endorphins so we just feel good, it makes our bodies shake and move so we take up less space, and it preserves our life for the future-- this should be the most important part of the day!
SO- I had to ask myself--realistically, what would I be willing to commit to everyday.
Walking.
If I can do nothing else, I can walk. For 10 minutes or 60 minutes - I can find the time to put my body in motion. Happens to be the exact motion that we were designed to do!
So here we go! It will be fun to see how many miles I can accumulate in one year by at the bare minimum walking everyday.

  1. You have me motivated I am on my way to walk and i will do it everyday. Sometimes I feel oh well I f I do not walk today it will not make a difference. But I will not buy into that anymore Thank you

  2. Friday - walked about 1/2 mile--not much but i did what I could in the middle of triple bday planning.
    Saturday - Played outside with my little one and raced mini cars, lets give it 1/4 mile.
    Sunday - played allll day at a birthday party - 1/4 mile.
    Monday - Walk at lakes park - 2 miles
    Total so far : 3 miles in 4 days ! WHAT??? Okay, time to kick this thing up a notch or three!!! So that means I have 4,997 to go by April 30, 2011. Lets do this thang!

  3. Okay kids! I put in 2 miles this morning and 3 miles this evening-- 5 for today! + 3 = 8
    What are you numbers up to???

    yesterday -- 0 ahhhhhhh in honor of Cinco De Mayo - NO BUENO!
    Today - 4miles + abripper
    Total = 12 miles
    4,988 to go!

  5. okay so i have some logging to do!
    Friday - 4 miles
    Saturday - 1/2 mile
    Sunday - 0
    Monday - 2 miles
    Tuesday(so far) 1 mile
    7.5 + 12 = 19.5 :)
    I am getting there...step by step!

  6. Wednesday = 2 miles + Cardio X
    Thursday = 0 miles + Shoulders, Arms and Ab Ripper X
    Total miles = 21.5 + some very sore arms :)

    Do you see what is beginning to happen?
    Is walking enough? YES - will it probably turn into something else...yuppers!
    My energy is up- my focus is up- my goals are unfolding.
    If all I can is walk then I will - even if its for 10 min. BUT if I can do more, I am starting to feel like I just might :)

  7. soooooooooo...here it is a month and ten days after my last check in...seriously???!?!? I have to tell you that sometimes the "pressure" can work in the opposite direction. Here I am, a Wellness Coach for nutrition and fitness and I fell off the wagon! It wasnt even a good fall, lazy and sort of slide off.
    Then instead of feeling like a warrior that was going back into battle NO MATTER WHAT - i ran and hide behind the bushes and thought if I stay away and I do not post anything .....
    Whatever. I am going to give myself credit for 10 miles in the last 42 days - I am pretty sure that is really underestimating things BUT its what I get right ;)
    SO Total Miles 21.5 +10 = 31.5 total miles.
    yaa mee!!!
    The best thing about this is that YOU can still join me!!!!

    Time to tally up -
    Tennis on the 26th for 2 hours, left me panting and giggling at the same time - we will leave those steps on the court.
    Monday - 2 miles
    Tuesday - (2) 3 mile walks
    Wednesday - off
    Thursday - 4 miles
    Friday - off
    Saturday - 7 loads of laundry and 3 clean rooms haha!
    Sunday - 12 mile bike ride over the island bridge... in the storm (oh yeah)
    Monday - off
    Total walking miles = 12 + 31.5 = 43.5
    Time to up my game - the relay across Florida in November is coming quick :)

  11. Fair enough! Are we counting biking miles? If so, 14 on the bike on Monday + 3 mile run/walk and 3 mile run/walk today for 20 miles this week! If we aren't counting the bike then 6 for the week!

  12. 5 miles yesterday -- do i get credit for pushing a 45lb 5 year old in a stroller with all of her dollies and hair accessories??????
    Trying to sprints has left me sore, sore, SORE!
    Upper body today with some low impact strides..
    5+46.5= 51.5 --- here we gooooo!

  13. 3.5 for yesterday - total 55 !
    Got my Ragnar information in the mail yesterday!!! Talk about motivation - 202 miles across the state of FL with 11 other crazy peeps - holy sweaty stinky mess! haha - also received info on the next Ragnar to the Florida Keys - who is with me!!!!????

  15. Nice Adam!!! I was thinking about you this weekend - hope you felt that energy push from way down here in FL :)
    Friday - 1 mile (i am most proud of this one mile because the day ran out of time quickly and we had social plans - the fun filled social hour could of EASILY taken precedence BUT - its a NO MATTER WHAT kind of thing and i headed out side to do one mile with upper arm sets after every lap ( 8 laps! )
    Saturday - 4miles
    Sunday- off
    Monday - 3.5
    Total 8.5 + 55 = 63.5!!!

  16. Its been almost a solid 2 months and wooooooooo momma has a lot been going on! New cars, lots of travel, and an expanding business! EXCITING!
    In the middle of all of this I have still kept my commitment to myself to LIVE THE LIFESTYLE! We are approaching the last quarter of this year and I am on track to hit my 2010 goals - with the relay around the corner my miles are growing. I wish I could say that I have specific numbers for you ... but i do not.
    I am going to KEEP MOVING FORWARD and keep my eyes on the future -- TODAY, I WIN :)
